Enhancing Environmental Monitoring and Reporting in Georgia

Summary

UNDP and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) assist Georgia to meet its international obligations under the three Rio conventions on: biodiversity conservation, climate change and desertification.

Our support aims to establish a sound national system of environmental information management and monitoring to promote cooperation and exchange between the ministries and municipalities and effectively address environmental issues.

Activities

In close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, we work to: (1) develop a coordinated national system of environmental information management and monitoring, and (2) build capacities of the technical and managerial staff of the ministries and municipalities in data collection and analysis. 

Expected results

  • Best international practices and innovative approaches incorporated into the national policies to assist Georgia in fulfilling its international environmental obligations under the Rio Conventions.
  • Increased effectiveness of environmntal management. Improved monitoring of environmental impacts and trends.
  • Increased professionalism of the technical and managerial staff responsible for environmentnal information management and monitoring.
