UNDP and the Global Environment Facility facilitate a shift to renewable energy in Georgia and promote production and use of biomass in the municipal sector.

We work to encourage demand for the upgraded biomass fuels and promote supply at the municipal level. The production and utilization of biomass is being supported through an investment grant mechanism and targeted public outreach aiming to stimulate the national market.

Results so far

  • Establishment of pilot biomass plants in Tbilisi and the regions of Georgia
  • Establishment and kick-off assistance to the Association of Biomass Producers of Georgia
  • The information campaign to increase public awareness abou the benefits of upgraded biomass fuels
