Vashlovani Protected Area is located in eastern part of Georgia. The area is characterized by its dry climate sitting only 150-50 meters above sea level with desert and semi-desert steppe vegetation and arid and deciduous forests. Semi-desert part of the territory is intensively used as pastures and overgrazing is the main problem not only for local ecosystem, but farmers.
This survey calculates carbon stock at the Vashlovani Protected Areas, assesses soil fertility and presents water balance modeling of the pastures. Information derived from the survey will lay the ground for the rehabilitation of the pasturelands and introduction of sustainable grazing practices.
