The Assessment examines the needs of the local population in the support zone of Machakhela National Park while looking into the opportunities of using locally available renewable energy sources.

The Assessment was undertaken in December 2015 by an independent consultant with support from the United Nations Development Programme and Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Georgia.
